The susceptible cultivar JG62 showed 100% mortality every season. The frequency of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceris, Rhizoctonia bataticola [Macrophomina phaseolina] and F. solani was 77, 9 and 5%, respectively. Out of 1283 accessions, 117 (23 in 1985/86, 3 in 1986/87 and 92 in 1987/88 seasons) showed less than 20% mortality in the first year and 40 of these showed less than 10% mortality in the second year. Although the lines that showed less than 10% mortality had smaller 100-seed weight and most flowered later than the high yielding control cv. Annigeri, most showed higher yield potential than cv. Annigeri, which gave a yield of 301 kg/ha.
