The stagnant to declining growth of the agriculture sector in Karnataka between 2000 and 2008 demanded a multipronged strategy to revive agriculture. Given the alarming situation, in 2009 the state initiated measures to address soil health through a state-wide, flagship program called Bhoochetana. The program was designed to get the state’s agriculture back on track by increasing crop productivity and strengthening agriculture-based livelihoods. date: 2020 date_type: published number: 1 publisher: ICRISAT place_of_pub: Hyderabad pagerange: 1-6 pages: 6 refereed: TRUE book_title: Mapping the Nutrient Status of Odisha’s Soils editors_name: Dixit, S editors_name: Mishra, P K editors_name: Muthukumar, M editors_name: Reddy, K M editors_name: Padhee, A K editors_name: Mishra, A citation: Chander, G and Dixit, S and Sawargaonkar, G (2020) Bhoochetana: Reviving Soils for Agriculture.
