The stagnant to declining growth of the agriculture sector in Karnataka between 2000 and 2008 demanded a multipronged strategy to revive agriculture. Given the alarming situation, in 2009 the state initiated measures to address soil health through a state-wide, flagship program called Bhoochetana. The program was designed to get the state’s agriculture back on track by increasing crop productivity and strengthening agriculture-based livelihoods. publisher: ICRISAT contributor: Dixit, S contributor: Mishra, P K contributor: Muthukumar, M contributor: Reddy, K M contributor: Padhee, A K contributor: Mishra, A date: 2020 type: Book Section type: PeerReviewed format: application/pdf language: en identifier: http://oar.icrisat.org/11938/1/Ch1-%28Bhoochetana%20Reviving%20Soils%20for%20Agriculture%29.pdf identifier: Chander, G and Dixit, S and Sawargaonkar, G (2020) Bhoochetana: Reviving Soils for Agriculture.
