Recently, genomics-assisted breeding has\r\nbecome a popular approach to food security; in this regard,\r\nthe crop breeding community must better link the relationships\r\nbetween the phenotype and the genotype. While\r\nhigh-throughput genotyping is feasible at a low cost, highthroughput\r\ncrop phenotyping methods and data analytical\r\ncapacities need to be improved.\r\nHigh-throughput phenotyping offers a powerful way to\r\nassess particular phenotypes in large-scale experiments,\r\nusing high-tech sensors, advanced robotics, and imageprocessing\r\nsystems to monitor and quantify plants in\r\nbreeding nurseries and field experiments at multiple scales.\r\nIn addition, new bioinformatics platforms are able to embrace\r\nlarge-scale, multidimensional phenotypic datasets.\r\nThrough the combined analysis of phenotyping and genotyping\r\ndata, environmental responses and gene functions\r\ncan now be dissected at unprecedented resolution.
