	bibo:abstract "Here we propose a 5G breeding approach for bringing muchneeded\r\ndisruptive changes to crop improvement. These 5Gs\r\nare Genome assembly, Germplasm characterization, Gene\r\nfunction identification, Genomic breeding (GB), and Gene\r\nediting (GE). In our view, it is important to have genome\r\nassemblies available for each crop and a deep collection of\r\ngermplasm characterized at sequencing and agronomic levels\r\nfor identification of marker-trait associations and superior\r\nhaplotypes. Systems biology and sequencing-based mapping\r\napproaches can be used to identify genes involved in pathways\r\nleading to the expression of a trait, thereby providing diagnostic\r\nmarkers for target traits. These genes, markers, haplotypes,\r\nand genome-wide sequencing data may be utilized in GB and\r\nGE methodologies in combination with a rapid cycle breeding\r\nstrategy."^^xsd:string;
