The consumption of contaminated commodities adversely affects the health of humans and livestock. Aflatoxin contamination also causes significant economic and financial losses to producers. Research efforts and significant progress have been made in the past three decades to understand the genetic behavior, molecular mechanisms, as well as the detailed biology of host-pathogen interactions. A range of omics approaches have facilitated better understanding of the resistance mechanisms and identified pathways involved during host-pathogen interactions. Most of such studies were however undertaken in groundnut and maize. Current efforts are geared toward harnessing knowledge on hostpathogen interactions and crop resistant factors that control aflatoxin contamination. This study provides a summary of the recent progress made in enhancing the understanding of the functional biology and molecular mechanisms associated with host-pathogen interactions during aflatoxin contamination in groundnut and maize. date: 2020-03 date_type: published publication: Frontiers in Microbiology (TSI) volume: 11 publisher: Frontiers Media pagerange: 1-22 id_number: doi:10.3389/fmicb.2020.00227 refereed: TRUE issn: 1664-302X official_url: https://doi.org/10.3389/fmicb.2020.00227 related_url_url: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=10.3389%2Ffmicb.2020.00227&btnG= related_url_type: pub citation: Soni, P and Gangurde, S S and Ortega-Beltran, A and Kumar, R and Parmar, S and Sudini, H K and Lei, Y and Ni, X and Huai, D and Fountain, J C and Njoroge, S and Mahuku, G and Radhakrishnan, T and Zhuang, W and Guo, B and Liao, B and Singam, P and Pandey, M K and Bandyopadhyay, R and Varshney, R K (2020) Functional Biology and Molecular Mechanisms of Host-Pathogen Interactions for Aflatoxin Contamination in Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) and Maize (Zea mays L.).
