%X The Department of Agricultural Research  Services (DARS) in partnership with the  International Crop research Institute for the  Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), has released  three improved sorghum varieties; Pilira  3, Pilira 4 and Pilira 5. These new varieties  replace Pilira 1 and Pilira 2, released in 1993,  and have since been the only improved  sorghum varieties available in Malawi.
