bibo:abstract "Breakthroughs in genomics research in recent decades have\r\nfundamentally changed the landscape of crop science at a\r\nnumber of fronts:\r\n(1) High-quality reference genome sequences have become\r\navailable for most of the crops which have provided\r\nthe foundation for understanding the genome and for\r\nfunctional genomic studies.\r\n(2) Large numbers of genes have been identified and functionally\r\ncharacterized for many important agronomic\r\ntraits, which have greatly enhanced the understanding\r\nof the regulatory mechanisms and the underlying biological\r\nprocesses for the making of the traits.\r\n(3) Large-scale resequencing of the diverse germplasms\r\nand genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have\r\nprovided assessment about the extent of genome diversity,\r\nthe genetic architecture, and association between\r\nthe phenotype and DNA sequence polymorphisms in\r\nmany crop species.\r\n(4) Systems of breeding technologies based on the advance\r\nin genomic studies, or genomic breeding, have now\r\nbeen developed including novel goals in response to\r\nthe evolving demands of the consumers, upgraded definitions\r\nof traits to be improved, techniques for whole\r\ngenome selection, and varietal designs for the implementation."^^xsd:string;
