The kabuli chickpeas with a\r\n100-seed weight of >40 g garner higher market\r\nprice as they are preferred by consumers. The\r\nobjective of this study was to evaluate a sample\r\nof chickpea landraces, breeding lines, and\r\ncultivars for morphological traits and yield and\r\nidentify lines that are high yielding and exhibit\r\nstable performance across environments. We\r\nevaluated 65 large-seeded kabuli lines identifi\r\ned from the ICRISAT germplasm collection in\r\nthree sets, 18 trials, and 13 environments for 22\r\nqualitative and quantitative traits. Several highly\r\nsignifi cant correlations were observed in all\r\nthree sets and a few large-seeded high-yielding\r\nlines with stable yield were selected. Two extralarge-\r\nseeded (100-seed weight > 50 g) lines ICC\r\n17109 (Blanco Sinaloa 92), a breeding line, and\r\nICC 17452 (CuGa 288), a landrace, both originating\r\nfrom Mexico showed high yield potential and\r\nwere moderately stable across environments.\r\nThe small-seeded control cultivars, though high\r\nyielding, were highly unstable, performing better\r\nonly in favorable environments. The study\r\nhas also shown that some vegetative characteristics\r\nwere more sensitive to stress than yield\r\nand yield components, hence selection in unfavorable\r\nenvironments should be based on grain\r\nyield and its components."^^ .
