The nuts are eaten in a variety of forms, or crushed to provide vegetable oil for human consumption and protein-rich meal for livestock. The haulms are an important source of fodder in developing countries. Developing countries account for nearly 95 percent of world production, and Asia for about 70 percent. The major producers are India, China, and the USA, which together account for over two-thirds of global output. Other important producers are Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, and Argentina. date: 1999 date_type: published publisher: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics place_of_pub: Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India pages: 56 institution: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics isbn: 9290664045 related_url_url: http://scholar.google.co.in/scholar?as_q=The+world+groundnut+economy+Facts%2C+trends%2C+and+outlook&num=10&btnG=Search+Scholar&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=title&as_sauthors=&as_publication=&as_ylo=&as_yhi=&as_sdt=1.&as_sdtp=on&as_sdtf=&as_sdts=5&hl=en related_url_type: author citation: Freman, H A and Nigam, S N and Kelley, T G and Ntare, B R and Subrahmanyam, P and Boughton, D (1999) The world groundnut economy Facts, trends, and outlook.
