bibo:abstract "The objective of this work is to improve production systems based\r\non sorghum and pearl millet in the Mopti and Sikasso regions of\r\nMali, by strengthening research and development partnerships\r\nfor large-scale utilization of proven technologies with potential for\r\nimproving nutrition, benefiting women and children, and enhancing\r\nthe sustainability of smallholder agriculture. At the farm level,\r\nthe focus has been to improve production by increasing access to\r\nselected new technologies, and enhancing awareness and ‘knowhow’\r\nfor the use of existing technologies to enhance sorghum\r\nand millet production. In the Mopti and Sikasso regions of Mali,\r\nthe major technologies targeted for dissemination include: i) the\r\nuse of seed treatment such as Apron Star 42WS, ii) seed of improved\r\nvarieties of pearl millet, sorghum (both hybrid and open\r\npollinated varieties), groundnut and cowpea adapted to the Sahelian\r\nenvironmental conditions, iii) integrated Striga and soil-fertility\r\nmanagement practices; and iv) biological control of the millet\r\nhead-miner. Seed treatment of pearl millet with Apron Star\r\nsignificantly reduced the incidence and severity of diseases. Grain\r\nyield was 20% higher when seed was treated. Further, the practice\r\nincreases yield by 39% relative to farmers’ current practice."^^xsd:string;
