"Drought remains a major constraint in rice (Oryza sativa L.) for\r\nproductivity in rainfed environments, leading to huge economic\r\nloss. Molecular marker technology helps in identifying genomic\r\nregions influencing the response of yield and its components to\r\nwater deficits, which will aid in our understanding the genetics\r\nof drought tolerance and development of more drought-tolerant\r\ncultivars. Investigation was carried out in rain out shelter at\r\nBirsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Jharkhand with the aim to\r\nidentify superior F3 segregants having drought-tolerant QTLs,\r\nfrom 100 randomly selected segregants of a cross between\r\ndrought-tolerant (DT) parent Birsa Gora 102 and drought-susceptible\r\n(DS) parent BPT 5204. Check parents Vandana (DT)\r\nand IR 20 (DS) were used. Plant height, panicle length, number\r\nof tillers, number of effective tillers, grains per panicle, panicle\r\nweight, seed yield per plant and test weight were the traits under\r\ninvestigation. Seventeen segregants were identified as superior,\r\nwith yield higher than 7.03 g/plant. The parents were analyzed\r\nwith 19 SSR markers, out of which 14 markers were found to be\r\npolymorphic. These polymorphic markers were used to analyze\r\nthe randomly selected segregants. None of the segregants were\r\nfound to be homozygous at entire 14 loci. Seventeen identified\r\nsegregants were found to have the drought tolerant QTLs. The\r\ngenomic regions flanked by the polymorphic markers have been\r\nreported to be associated with several drought resistance component\r\ntraits.
