bibo:abstract "Chickpea is an important food grain legume and an\r\nessential component of crop rotations throughout the\r\nworld. However, the adaptation and productivity of\r\nchickpea is often limited by low and high temperatures.\r\nCold stress generally occurs in the late vegetative\r\nand reproductive stages across the geographical areas\r\nof chickpea production. Cold and freezing temperatures\r\n(−1.5°C to 15°C) are considered a major\r\nproblem during\r\nthe seedling stage of winter-sown\r\nchickpea in Mediterranean areas and autumn-sown\r\ncrops in temperate regions (Singh, 1993). South\r\nAustralia and parts of north India are most affected by\r\nchilling temperatures\r\nat flowering (Berger et al., 2011).\r\nOn the other hand, high day and night temperatures\r\n(>30/16°C) may cause damage during the reproductive\r\nstage on winter-sown chickpea in Mediterranean inseason\r\nrainfall areas, south Asia and spring-sown\r\nregions (Berger et al., 2011). In chickpea, temperature\r\nis a major environmental factor regulating the timing\r\nof flowering thus influencing grain yield (Summerfield\r\net al., 1990; Berger et al., 2004).
