The experiment was laid out in RCBD with ten treatments and three replications. Application of nutrients as per SSNM approach for targeted yield of 55 q ha-1 for Dry DSR and its residual effect on mustard was registered significantly higher growth, yield and yield attributes. Application of nutrients as per SSNM approach for targeted yield of 55 q ha-1 for Dry DSR registered significantly higher grain and straw yield (54.73 and 68.38 q ha-1, respectively) and residual mustard seed yield and stover yield (592 kg ha-1 and 1856 kg ha-1, respectively) over farmers practice and other soil test methods. Total uptake of major and micronutrients as well as higher use efficiency of N-54.88 %, P-65.56 % and K-95.13 % were observed in Dry DSR with nutrient application through SSNM approach targeted yield of 55 q ha-1 as compared to farmers practice and other soil test methods. Further, farmer practice recorded highest (` 52,391 ha-1) cost of cultivation in dry direct seeded rice-mustard cropping sequence. Whereas, Significantly higher gross returns (` 1,47,554 ha-1), net returns (` 1,01,993 ha-1) and BC ratio (3.24) was obtained with SSNM approach for the targeted yield of 55 q ha-1 as compared to farmers practice and other treatments in dry direct seeded rice-mustard cropping system. SSNM approach is unique and most realistic to achieve the targeted yield in dry direct seeded rice-mustard cropping system. date: 2017 date_type: submitted pages: 254 institution: College of Agriculture, Raichur University of Agricultural Sciences Raichur department: Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry thesis_type: phd citation: Raghavendra, .
