"Iron deficiency is an important abiotic constraint reducing\r\nthe growth and yield of groundnut especially under\r\ncalcareous soils. Foliar application of Fe-chelates can\r\novercome iron deficiency but it is not economical.\r\nEvaluation of 318 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) along\r\nwith parents for iron deficiency chlorosis (IDC) and\r\nproductivity traits under iron deficient soils over three years\r\nindicated significant genotypic and genotypic x\r\nenvironment interaction (GE) component for both IDC and\r\nproductivity traits. Among the RILs, range of variation was\r\nhigher than that of the parents for visual chlorotic rating\r\n(VCR), SPAD chlorophyll meter reading (SCMR) and\r\nproductivity parameters across three years indicated the\r\npresence of transgressive segregants. VCR had higher\r\nphenotypic and genotypic, variances, heritability and\r\ngenetic advance as per cent of mean (GAM) in all the three\r\nyears as compared to SCMR. Among productivity traits,\r\npod yield (g plant–1) had higher PCV and GCV compared to\r\nshelling per cent and 100 seed weight. Significant negative\r\ncorrelation between VCR and pod yield per plant indicated\r\neffect of IDC on productivity in RILs. Nine lines were\r\nsuperior for both IDC tolerance and productivity traits. This\r\nextensive phenotyping of RIL population for IDC tolerance\r\nunder iron deficient conditions can be used for\r\nidentification of genomic regions associated with IDC\r\ntolerance by genotyping of this RIL population."^^ .
