From whole-genome resequencing of 292 Cajanus accessions encompassing breeding lines, landraces and wild species, we characterize genome-wide variation. On the basis of a scan for selective sweeps, we find several genomic regions that were likely targets of domestication and breeding. Using genome-wide association analysis, we identify associations between several candidate genes and agronomically important traits. Candidate genes for these traits in pigeonpea have sequence similarity to genes functionally characterized in other plants for flowering time control, seed development and pod dehiscence. Our findings will allow acceleration of genetic gains for key traits to improve yield and sustainability in pigeonpea. publisher: Nature Publishing Group date: 2017-05-22 type: Article type: PeerReviewed format: application/pdf language: en identifier: http://oar.icrisat.org/10021/1/Whole-genome%20resequencin.pdf identifier: Varshney, R K and Saxena, R K and Upadhyaya, H D and Khan, A W and Yu, Y and Kim, C and Rathore, A and Kim, D and Kim, J and An, S and Kumar, V and Anuradha, G and Yamini, K N and Zhang, W and Muniswamy, S and Kim, J S and Penmetsa, R V and von Wettberg, E and Datta, S K (2017) Whole-genome resequencing of 292 pigeonpea accessions identifies genomic regions associated with domestication and agronomic traits.
