distinct niorphotypes can result from a few mutations and share a comnion genetic&#13;
background. Therefore, molecular markers are essential for explaining whether existing&#13;
genetic variability, assessed by measuring morpl~o-agronomic characters, is related to&#13;
genetic diversity. This may be assessed by measuring allelic frequencies using molecular&#13;
markers. Thus, the present study was undertaken with an objective to establish a pearl&#13;
millet core collection that represents a complete range of genetic diversity of the world&#13;
collection and to achieve the following objectives:&#13;
To compare multivariate vs. hierarchical classification for determining core&#13;
collections that maximizes diversity.&#13;
To evaluate the adequacy of mean characterization data to determine core&#13;
collection and do diversity assessment in a cross-pollinated crop.&#13;
To determine the extent of diversity within and between accessions of&#13;
