Abstract

When groundnuts are stored, either as pods or kernels, they are susceptible to insect attack. The publication describes the main pest species and briefly outlines their ecology and behavior. The use of traps to detect pest populations in stores is discussed and methods of estimating quantitative losses are described. Recommended pest management techniques are outlined with emphasis on prevent ion of infestation by improving storage practices. The potential inputs to an integrated control program are examined. Screening for host-plant resistance to storage pests is discussed and general guidelines for these experiments given.
