Abstract

Using one-week-old seedlings, grafts were made involving resistant Cicer arietinum cultivars WR315 and CPS1 and susceptible H208 as stocks and scions in 4 combinations. One week after grafting, plants were transferred to pots of spore-infected soil. When H208 was the scion in grafts with the resistant cultivars it showed no disease symptoms even after 60 days (under normal circumstances symptoms in H208 appear after 28-34 days). In the scion/stock combination WR315/H208, wilt symptoms were not seen until pod set and then were restricted to the lower leaves. It is suggested that antifungal substances might be involved in F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceri resistance.
