Abstract
Groundnuts, as a food crop, contribute signi f icant l y to human diets in the Semi-Arid Tropics. World production of groundnuts is estimated to be an annual 18.5 mi l l ion metric tons, grown on an area of 19.3 mi l l ion hectares (an average yield of 958 kg/ha in shel l ) . More than 70 percent of the world production is grown in developing countries, and India produces more than 5 mi l l ion metric tons from 7 mi l l ion hectares. The Indian universi t ies have made a considerable cont r ibut ion to groundnut research, especially since Independence. This bibliography is a compilation of M Sc and Ph D theses on groundnuts submitted to Indian universi t ies and inst i tut ions pr ior to 1977. The research resul ts in these theses have not been previously published.
