Abstract
These breeding lines were developed by the bulk pedigree method from crosses made in 1982 between high-yielding genotypes and jassid [cicadellid] resistant germplasm sources NC Ac2214 and NC Ac2240. ICGV86252, ICGV86455 and ICGV86462 are sequentially branching (subsp. fastigiata) while ICGV86393 is alternate branching (subsp. hypogaea). In trials at several locations in India during 1988-90, the 4 lines gave similar pod yields to the controls (ICGV87123, Kadiri 3 and NC Ac343) in the rainy season (1.76-1.98 t/ha), but yielded about 1 t/ha more in the post-rainy season (3.04-3.5 t/ha). Seed oil contents (46-49%) were similar to those of the controls. The lines exceeded the controls for jassid resistance (scores of 1.6-2.2 vs. 3.7-8.0 on a 1-9 scale of increasing damage).
