Abstract
This Virginia variety was selected from a cross between an adapted variety, Kadiri 3, and an introduced germplasm line following the bulk pedigree method. Released for rainy-season cultivation in Uttar Pradesh, it also performs well in the summer. In trials in zone I of India during 1981-84, ICGV87121 averaged 56% and 12% more pod yield than TMV10 and Kadiri 3, respectively. In summer tests, pod yields were 109-141% higher than those of recommended varieties. Good recovery from mid-season drought is shown. The tan-coloured seeds contain 50% oil (oleic/linoleic acid ratio 1.5) and 22% protein. Maturation is over 120 days in the rainy season. Average shelling turnover is 68%.
