Abstract
The kabuli chickpea (Cicer arietinum) lines ILC200 and ILC6482 and the desi lines ICC4475, ICC6328 and ICC12004 were identified as resistant to Ascochyta rabiei by screening 6594 kabuli germplasm accessions available at ICARDA and 12 749 desi germplasm accessions available at ICRISAT. Screening was carried out during 1979-91 in field and greenhouse studies at Tel Hadya, Syria, by inoculation with blight affected chickpea diseased debris and by spraying with a mixture of spores o f 6 races of A. rabiei from Syria. None of the lines showed desirable attributes for direct commercial exploitation, but are recommended as valuable sources of resistance to A. rabiei in hybridization programmes.
