The genus Cajanus has 32 species, of which only pigeonpea, [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] is cultivated. Cajanus scarabaeoides, one of the closely related wild species of pigeonpea, has high level of tolerance to drought and resistance to insectpests.
