Abstract

Reciprocal crosses were made between 6 P. glaucum [P. americanum] genotypes differing in colour, bristles and plant hairs. Segregation ratios in the F2 indicated that purple colour on the stems, leaves, bristles and glumes of IP8073 was controlled by a single dominant gene, designated P. Purple nodes were conferred by 2 complementary dominant genes (designated Pn1 and Pn2 in IP8008 and IP8214, respectively). Hairy nodes were controlled by a single gene which was dominant to glabrous nodes. Hairy leaf sheaths and blades were controlled by a single recessive gene. Bristle length showed continuous variation in the F2 indicating polygenic control. No linkage was detected among any of the traits., 13 ref., Reciprocal crosses were made between 6 P. glaucum [P. americanum] genotypes differing in colour, bristles and plant hairs.
