Abstract
This new [Pennisetum glaucum] variety, released in 1988, yields an average of 2.12 t/ha, outyielding the standard WCC75 by 7% in Maharashtra and 11% in Andhra Pradesh. It was obtained from a recombination of 5 progenies from a large-grained landrace from northern Togo. ICTP8203 is resistant to downy mildew [Sclerospora graminicola], has large, dark grey grains (1000-grain weight >12 g) and compact spikes. Under conditions of drought stress and infertile soils, ICTP8203 yields at least twice as much as other cultivars.
