Abstract

This chapter focuses on the watershed development programme in India. It assesses the ways and means of enhancing the benefits of watershed programmes through scaling-out strategies by identifying biophysical and socioeconomic drivers of success based on critical analysis of case studies. It also identifies conditions for larger participation of the stakeholders in the watershed activities, which is a prerequisite for successful implementation and sustainability of the watershed development projects.
