Abstract

Chickpeas are an important legume crop, particularly in Asia. They are grown in about 35 countries. Total world production of chickpeas is around 7.1 Mt produced on nearly 10 Mha of land (average of 1985-87). The paper presents tables and describes the distribution of chickpea area, production and yields by producing country in 1985-87; changes in these parameters (1985-87 as compared to 1979-81); distribution of chickpea producing countries by yield average; and imports and exports of chickpeas by country.
