Abstract

Two field experiments were conducted at ICARDA, Tel Hadya, Syria for 3 seasons during 1982-86, to study the relationship between A. rabiei infection and yield loss in chickpea, and to identify disease resistant lines. In the first experiment <10% yield loss was recorded in lines showing a disease rating of 2-4, 16% in lines with rating 5, 26-27% in lines with rating 6-7, and >80% in lines with rating 8-9. In the second experiment, lines with a rating of ≤4 showed a max. 12% yield loss, while susceptible line ILC 1929, with rating 9, showed almost 100% loss. In both experiments, the yields of the susceptible lines were higher than those of lines with a rating of <4 under disease free conditions.
