    Abstract

    The application of analysis of variance of ratios on a plot basis is criticised and an alternative procedure for estimating harvest index using ratio of means is proposed. Comparison of the proposed estimate of harvest index with the conventional estimate was made using field data from Arachis hypogaea. The proposed estimate (based on ratio of means) is more precise and has a smaller bias compared to the conventional estimates of harvest index.
