Abstract

A genotype with 2 pods per leaf axil was obtained from colchine-induced tetraploid progenies of the single podded cultivar Annigeri. The new genotype has a seed shape, maturity, growth habit, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceri reistance and productivity which are similar to those of Annigeri. The majority of bud axils produce twin flowers but only about 50% of the axils develop twin pods; the rest have either single or no pods, due to bud or flower drop. The twin-podded genotype has been designated Annigeri-TP and is being maintained in the ICRISAT gene bank as ICC14362.
