Abstract

Soil microbial biomass carbon (SMBC), a key determinant of nutrient cycling and carbon turnover, is estimated using the fumigation–extraction method, where the difference in organic carbon between fumigated and non-fumigated soil reflects the living microbial biomass. This measurement provides valuable insights into soil biological activity and its role in sustaining ecosystem productivity.
