The potassium permanganate oxidizable carbon (POXC) method is extensively utilized and offers a swift means to assess the labile percentage of soil organic carbon (SOC). This percentage exhibits heightened sensitivity to managerial alterations and environmental factors. POXC denotes the active, readily decomposable organic matter in the soil, providing insights into soil quality and carbon cycles. This method provides a dependable and economical means to track variations in soil organic matter, making it an essential instrument for evaluating sustainable agriculture practices and soil health management programs (Weil et al. 2003). This procedure outlines a method for measuring POXC in soil samples, based on the “Active Carbon” method by Weil et al. (2003), with adaptations from the Glover Lab at the Land Institute and the Barbercheck Lab at Pennsylvania State University.
